Czar Nicholas II Abdicates: The Russian Revolution Begins

March 16, 1917, Czar Nicholas II relinquished power.
- On November 7, a revolt led by Vladimir Lenin ended with the Bolsheviks gaining power.
- Within months, Russia erupted into a civil war between the Bolshevik red army and the pro-monarchy white army.
- On July 16, 1918, Nicholas II and his family were executed.

 

Assassination and Violence in Russia
-During the peoples revolution in Russia, Czar Nicholas II and his family were assassinated. This created a sense of terrorism throughout the state.
-The next stage of political violence that swept through Russia came with Lenin and his radical and violent ideas that lead the Bolsheviks to power. Later in 1918 there was an attempted assassination on Lenin in which he punished 800 people in revenge for his attempted murder.
-Leader of the Red Army, Leon Trotsky, stated that every state is based on terror. In 1940, Trotsky feel victim to the terror he spoke about when the new Communist leader, Josef Stalin, had him murdered.
-Stalins reign of genocide terrorized the nation for 8 years and by 1938 twenty million people perished.

 

The Death of Vladimir Lenin

Lenin was the founder of the Russian Communist Party, leader of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, and the first head of state of the USSR.
- On January 21, 1924, Vladimir Lenin died at the age of 54.
- Lenin studied the issue of revolutionary change in Russia from a Marxist perspective.
- In 1917, Lenin brought the Bolsheviks to power.
- The capital city in Russia was named Leningrad in honor of Vladimir Lenin.

Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union 

- The Soviet Ruler Josef Stalin began to show signs of instability and paranoia during the 1930s.
- Stalin executed alomst 40,000 officers who he thought were not politically acceptable.

 March 24, 1933, German democracy was legally ended.
- Hitler now had the right to legislate on matters of finance, foreign affairs and the constitution.
- The Nazi party became the only party in Germany and aimed at the persecution of the Jews.
- The property, businesses and homes of German Jews were seized and destroyed.
- Jews were also sent to work camps.
- Hitler not only wanted to conquer Germany, but its surrounding areas as well.

The Adoption of the Swastika By The Nazi Party

The Swastika was adopted by the Nazi Party in 1920.
