Fall of the Qing Dynasty

Page history last edited by Kelly Ray 12 years ago

OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to analyze factors leading to the collapse of the Qing dynasty in order to decide which event contributed most to the fall of the dynasty.

The last dynasty of China was the Qing (Ching) Dynasty, which ruled from 1644 to 1911. In the early years of the dynasty its leaders, the Manchus, were strong enough to maintain China’s power in the world. They enforced strict laws that limited traders from the West (Europe and the United States). This helped them to maintain Chinese traditions and resist Western influence. However, the dynasty began to lose its power in the late 1700's.  During the 1800's and early 1900's, the Qing Dynasty faced a series of problems that caused its power to decline.
