Start a Green Revolution!

Page history last edited by anna conner 9 years, 11 months ago

The General is "going green" . . .

. . . and he wants YOU to lead the Green Revolution
here at General John Stricker Middle School!

Maybe you're wondering, "Why should we go green?"

Being “green” is a new way of thinking about the world you live in, and a way of living your life. And it’s catching on all over the globe. People decide to “go green” because they know that we only have one planet to live on, and we won’t be able to live on it much longer if we keep wasting energy and resources, and trashing it with air, land, and water pollution.

“Green Living” means:

  • Understanding that we all need:
    • Clean air to breathe
    • Clean water to drink
    • Safe, healthy food to eat
    • Safe, healthy places to live
    • Safe, clean energy to run the places where we live, learn, play and work
  • Understanding that the choices you make affect not just you, but everybody everywhere.
  • Understanding that the choices you make affect not just today, but the future.
  • Making choices to conserve energy and resources and reduce waste and pollution

Your Mission:
General Stricker has enlisted you and your classmates as Captains in his new Green Army.Your mission is to start a Green Revolution at General John Stricker Middle School. To make this happen, you will need to:

Persuade members of our school community to "go green"
by informing them about an environmental issue and how they can help.

Members of our school community may include:

  • students
  • parents and families
  • teachers and school staff
  • businesses and organizations
  • government representatives

Can one person really make a difference?

You may be thinking: “Hey, I’m just one person, I can’t really make a difference.” Consider the Starfish Story:

Together, can we start a movement?

Have you ever seen a crowd at a sports stadium do “the wave"? It always starts off with one or two people; but in no time at all, the whole stadium -- thousands of people -- is joining in. “Going green” is just like that. It starts with small, simple actions by just a few people. It can soon build into a wave of participation by many more. A Green Revolution in our school community could help to help to transform the whole planet, and lead us all to healthier, happier lives.

Are you ready to start a Green Revolution at Stricker?

  1. You will begin your mission by researching an environmental issue.
  2. Then you will create a PSA (public service announcement) video to inform members of our school community about the environmental issue you researched and encourage them to take action.
  3. Ms. Conner will place a link on the school website for members of the school community to watch your PSA videos and Join the General's Green Revolution.
