Miracle Worker Glog

Objective: Use GlogsterEDU to create an interactive multimedia poster in order to share your knowledge about the historical and biographical background for the play The Miracle Worker.

        • Your Glog will be assessed using this scoring tool.
        • Outstanding Glogs will be used as learning resources by next year's 7th grade Language Arts students as they prepare to read The Miracle Worker.
        • You will be provided with a GlosterEDU student account. This account is to be used for school projects only
        • All Glogs created using this account must comply with the BCPS Telecommunications Policy for Students

 

Your Glog should include information about some of the following topics:

  • Helen Keller
    • What kind of person was Helen Keller?  Describe her background.
    • What was Helen’s family like?  How did they treat Helen?
    • Describe the Keller house and grounds. What are these like today?
    • What caused Helen to lose her sight and hearing?  Describe this disease.
    • What steps did Anne take to teach Helen?  How did Helen respond?  How did Helen’s family respond?
    • How did Helen treat Anne?  Explain how this treatment changed as Anne taught Helen.
    • Give details of Helen’s adult life.  Include accomplishments, travel, etc 
  • Anne Sullivan
    • Describe Anne Sullivan.  Give background information about her.
    • Explain Anne’s method of teaching Helen.
    • How did Helen’s family support (or not support) Anne?
    • Give details about Anne’s childhood and adult life 
  • Life during the late 1800's/19th century
    • What was life like in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s?  Name some inventions.
    • What types of technology was available to disabled people?
    • How were illnesses treated during this time period?
    • How were blind and deaf people treated 
  • American Sign Language, Braille, Perkins Institute 
    • Give information about the Perkins Institute.
    • Provide information about sign language.  Who invented it?  Are there different kinds?
    • Explain Braille.  Who invented it?  Show some examples and label them 
  • William Gibson's play The Miracle Worker 
    • Why is the play so unique?  Why did the writer think that writing a play was the best way to tell the story of Helen Keller?
    • What would the stage look like for The Miracle Worker?  Why would the director design the set this way?  Explain how lighting plays a part in the play.
    • Who is the Miracle Worker?
